Imperfect Paradise In-sight

for finding your place

The Story

For this In-sight, there are two ways you can look at it. Paradise, for you, may be your home. Or paradise may be a trip, a destination. We can use either one of these to get you to the light. Here's both.

In my first marriage, we got married on Kauai. Such a beautiful place. The wedding was amazing. The honeymoon, despite a few hiccups, was great as well. But after that marriage turned sour, you would think certain places would be spoiled for me. You would think I would be reluctant to go back. But I think with the right person or myself, it would not matter. I can picture myself, even now, with the right one, walking the very same beaches, this time it feeling more right, this time it feeling more real. Maybe that is why I can envision that. We were already fighting, even at the time of our wedding. So it wasn't the place. It was us who were the wrong.

Fast forward many years, and picture me at my former home in Pennsylvania. In the latter part of my days there, I found myself wondering what was so wrong, so off. It was my dream property, a gorgeous home. Two barns, my dream tack room in one. In-ground swimming pool with privacy. Four acres with a top of the line electric fence, newly strung by me. I had multiple work spaces, large yards for the dogs, protective trees, stores within reach. Albeit it wasn't my ideal location, but it was a horse-lover like me and entrepreneur's dream. But then why did it feel so wrong? Because it was wrong.

Both of these experiences made me realize something I had let go of somewhere along the road. I remember thinking, as a child, that as long as I was with the right person, I could live, go, or be anywhere. I truly believed that. And with true love, we could live in a car for all I cared. This memory reminded me that the biggest of mansions cannot replace or make up for what is true paradise, finding one's right "place" in the world, and right people, if they are a part of it. Paradise.

The In-sight

So I ask you, what is your paradise? Picture where you are at in your life, location-wise. Are you happy there? Happy or not, is it because of the place or because of your life or even the people you are with? What would make it actually feel more perfect?

And if you need to borrow, envision Kauai, a place still magical for me in spite of life’s sharp turns. See my farm in Pennsylvania, my paradise, but with a life I was not meant to lead. See the innocent perfection in the childhood fantasy of being okay living anywhere with your ultimate true love. See your paradise. What does it look like? Are you there with anyone? Do they make it better or worse? See yourself there. Are you alone? What makes the imperfect even closer to perfect? You'll be there. You will be. Just clarify what it looks like. Or use this in-sight for hope.

Tips and Possibilities

  • This in-sight might take a little more feeling than you may realize. Take your time. Let the places you love (or used to love and now hate) show you what is real in your life and what might need to change. Then, use this reflection to direct you to where YOU feel right, both in life and in place. You will find your paradise…in a car, in a town, in the mountains…or maybe even in Hawaii.

  • The larger point of this in-sight is to see your life for what it truly is and find where you are meant to be. Are you being honest with yourself? Have you lost yourself? How or why? This in-sight is to help you find and see your idea of heaven and paradise, for the first time or again, and remind you that you will eventually get there.
